The Feminist Generative AI Lab is a joint research center between TU Delft and Erasmus University of Rotterdam, and it is funded by the Convergence program.

Mission

We aim to promote social empowerment, inclusion, and equity through AI research. We work collaboratively to address systemic inequalities and empower diverse communities.

Approach

Our approach to technology, inspired by feminist principles, goes beyond gender. We aim for less hierarchical alternatives, embrace pluralism, and reject binary thinking. The lack of diversity in AI development reinforces systemic discrimination and inequalities, often prioritizing profit over societal and ecological well-being.

We apply feminist AI principles in generative AI design and development, promoting empowerment, inclusion, and justice. Using an intersectional approach, our research examines power structures and hierarchies within AI, using methods centered on participation, pluralism, and embodiment. This interdisciplinary work brings together expertise from design, social sciences, and AI to create more ethical, inclusive technologies.
